At Lakewood University, we believe that learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms. Your life, work, and military experiences—as well as self-study, training programs, and certifications—may all qualify for college credit through our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program.
To be considered for PLA credit, you’ll submit a comprehensive PLA portfolio that showcases and validates your learning. This portfolio will be reviewed by qualified faculty evaluators. If credit is requested in a subject area beyond an evaluator’s expertise, input may be gathered from additional instructors or Department Chairs.
This process is guided by Lakewood University’s dedicated PLA Facilitator, Dr. Cindy Stevens.

Dear Future PLA Student,
This is your opportunity to earn college credit for the valuable learning you’ve already gained—both inside and outside the classroom. Now is the perfect time to reflect on your journey. Have you completed professional training or workshops? Served in the military? Earned certifications? Engaged in self-paced or independent study? All of these experiences may qualify for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) credit.
Through the PLA process, you can save time, reduce tuition costs, and even graduate sooner by receiving credit for what you already know. Your job now is to carefully organize your past learning, articulate what you’ve gained, and present a thoughtful, well-documented portfolio that tells your unique story.
You don’t have to do this alone—I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.
Wishing you the best as you begin this exciting journey,
Cindy Stevens
