As this is one of our combination programs, you will find that there are two different course descriptions; one for each portion of the program:
Pharmacy Technician:
Lakewood University’s Pharmacy Technician program prepares students to aid licensed pharmacists in preparing medications, providing customer service, and performing administrative duties within a pharmacy setting. The program outlines the proper communication skills necessary for pharmacy technicians, including telecommunication and interpersonal communication skills. The course will focus on the accuracy necessary to ensure that prescription information is complete and accurate. Students in this program will gain the knowledge and skills to qualify them for entry-level positions in pharmacies and prepare them for the National Certification Exam.
Medical Coding:
Lakewood University’s Medical Coding program provides a comprehensive understanding of medical coding and its components. This program covers many topics, including navigating the International Classification of Disease, ICD-10-CM, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS). This program will also take students through a series of individual coding cases requiring them to use all three coding books for individual body systems.
Our students stand out from other graduates thanks to our partnership with Walgreens and CVS/Pharmacy nationwide. At Lakewood University, Pharmacy Technician graduates will have the opportunity to complete a pharmacy technician externship and receive hands-on pharmacy technician training.*

Employment is expected to increase much faster than average, and job opportunities are expected to be excellent, especially for those with formal training or certification. The increased number of middle-aged and elderly people—who use more prescription drugs than younger people—will spur demand for pharmacy workers throughout the projection period. In addition, as scientific advances lead to new drugs, and as more people obtain prescription drug coverage, pharmacy workers will be needed in growing numbers.
The employment of pharmacy technicians is projected to grow 7 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased demand for prescription medications will lead to more demand for pharmaceutical services.
The median annual wage for pharmacy technicians was $33,950 in May 2019.*

Lakewood University provides all textbooks, study guides, supplemental materials, achievement exams, and instructional support at no cost to the student.
This is a 1200 clock hour program with a tuition cost of $14.50 per clock hour (600 clock hours X $14.50 per clock hour = $17,400.00 in tuition).
Application Fee- $0 for degree programs; $0 for vocational programs
Registration Fee – $200 for degree programs; $125 for vocational programs
Library Fee – $100 per degree semester; $250 per vocational program term
