Overview

As this is one of our combination programs, you will find that there are two different course descriptions; one for each portion of the program:

Pharmacy Technician:
Lakewood University’s Pharmacy Technician program prepares students to aid licensed pharmacists in preparing medications, providing customer service, and performing administrative duties within a pharmacy setting. The program outlines the proper communication skills necessary for pharmacy technicians, including telecommunication and interpersonal communication skills. The course will focus on the accuracy necessary to ensure that prescription information is complete and accurate. Students in this program will gain the knowledge and skills to qualify them for entry-level positions in pharmacies and prepare them for the National Certification Exam.

Medical Billing:
Lakewood University’s Medical Billing program provides a comprehensive understanding of medical billing and its components. This program will contain many medical billing topics such as managed care, insurance claim processing, a brief introduction to ICD-10-CM coding, HCPCS coding, and CPT coding and reimbursement methodologies. It will also cover claim submission for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Workers’ Compensation, and TRICARE. It will also cover the basic office needs, how coding and billing interrelate, and how to maintain and establish the electronic health record.

Career Outlook

Employment is expected to increase much faster than average, and job opportunities are expected to be excellent, especially for those with formal training or certification. The increased number of middle-aged and elderly people—who use more prescription drugs than younger people—will spur demand for pharmacy workers throughout the projection period. In addition, as scientific advances lead to new drugs, and as more people obtain prescription drug coverage, pharmacy workers will be needed in growing numbers.

The employment of pharmacy technicians is projected to grow 7 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased demand for prescription medications will lead to more demand for pharmaceutical services.

The median annual wage for pharmacy technicians was $33,950 in May 2019.*

Lakewood University provides all textbooks, study guides, supplemental materials, achievement exams, and instructional support at no cost to the student.

This is a 1200-clock-hour program with a tuition cost of $14.50 per clock hour (1200 clock hours X $14.50 per clock hour = $17,400.00 in tuition).

Administrative Fees (in addition to the tuition above)

Application Fee- $75 for degree programs; $0 for vocational programs

Registration Fee – $200 for degree programs; $125 for vocational programs

Library Fee – $100 per degree semester; $250 per vocational program term
